A Mei Tai is essentially a square of fabric with straps at each corner. Two straps tie around the wearer's waist. The other two straps go over the wearer's shoulders, cross and tie together. The basic concept originates from China but the design has been developed by many Mei Tai makers into carriers with variations such as padding in the straps, wider straps, shaped bodies, sleeping hoods and fancy fabrics.
Pros:
* Weight distributed over both shoulders - good for heavier babies/toddlers
* Easy to use
* One size fits most – (some may need XL straps - especially with toddlers)
* Great for front and back carries - can do high back carries
Cons:
* Not as supportive for a newborn, but can be done by rolling the body of the carrier to make it shorter
