have raw cake and eat it

I have one of these in the morning, usually when I first get up although it does not always work out like that so sometimes I have it mid morning instead while the children have a fruit snack. This makes enough for 2 so you can share with someone else or put the rest in the fridge for a refreshing afternoon drink. It might taste a bit strange at first and you might need to start off putting some extra sweet fruit in while you get used to it, such as banana, but believe me, it will make you feel great.

1 apple

6 large lettuce leaves or other green leafy vegetable such as kale, spinach, cabbage etc.

piece brocolli

1 stick celery

1 heaped teaspoon chlorella or spirulina powder (you can start off with a little and build it up gradually)

1 litre water

  1. 1.Soak all of the vegetables in a solution of vinegar (see food preparation).

  2. 2.Chop up apple (include peel), brocolli and celery into small chunks and put in the blender with water.

  3. 3.Add broken up leaves and chlorella or spirulina powder to the blender.

  4. 4.Blend for 2 minutes. A high powered blender would be ideal for this but a regular blender or hand blender should also work.

  5. 5.Serve in glasses. If you like your smoothie colder, you add some ice, but it will be better for your digestion if you can get used to it at room temperature.
