have raw cake and eat it

Chia Seeds come from the desert plant Salvia hispanica, a member of the mint family from southern Mexico. In pre-columbian times, chia seeds were a component of the Aztec and Mayan diets. Chia was the basic survival ration of Aztec warriors, 2 tablespoons of the seeds could sustain a marching person for 24 hours. The Aztecs used to pay their taxes in the seeds and Chia was used as a general unit of currency. In Aztec times, you could eat you wallet!

It is still widely used in Mexico and South America, with the seeds ground for nutritious drinks and as a food source. Our chia seeds are grown in Mexico without the use of artificial fertilisers or pesticides.

Chia Seeds are approved for sale to use in the UK in bread, using 5% of the ingredients as chia seeds, as they are considered a novel food here. We can only sell them on this basis. We take no responsibility if you choose to use them in other ways.
