Barley miso is a paste made from fermented barley which is added to soups, stews and sauces to provide a rich colour and savoury taste. Barley Miso is rich in iron, so can be useful for vegetarians and vegans. Although we do not generally eat soya products, this is one which we think is beneficial to health.


Clearspring Organic Barley Miso is  a high quality miso, made to a traditional recipe by the Onozaki family. The miso is aged and matured in cedarwood kegs. Barley miso is a traditional miso used in rural Japan where it is known as mugi miso.


As it is unpasteurised it has probiotic properties and should be added towards the end of cooking so these are not destroyed.


This jar contains many servings as only a small amount is required to provide the savoury taste. It will keep for months stored in the fridge.


Ingredients (300g) cultured barley*(38%), whole soya beans* (35%), sea salt, water.
